International Day of Cooperatives, July 4th
Theme: Cooperatives for a Peaceful World
Today we celebrate the power of people working together.
The 2026 UN theme, Cooperatives for a Peaceful World”, recognizes cooperatives as people-centered enterprises that build trust, inclusion, and solidarity.
In a world facing conflict, inequality, and declining trust, peace means more than the absence of violence. It also means fairness, dialogue, economic security, and communities where everyone has a voice.
How cooperatives make a difference:
1. Democratic ownership: One member, one vote. Decisions are made together.
2. Open membership: Anyone can join and participate, across social and economic divides.
3. Collective responsibility: Shared goals create shared prosperity through decent work, poverty reduction, and social integration.
Rooted in local communities and connected through a global movement, cooperatives support livelihoods and help bring people together to solve shared problems.
Today we recognize cooperative members, workers, and leaders who are building stronger, more inclusive, and more peaceful communities.
Happy International Day of Cooperatives!
